Cleaning and Caring for your Rugs
-
Vacuum: Vacuuming is a very important step for keeping your rug clean. Vacuum your rugs at least once a week, or up to 3 times per week for handmade wool and jute rugs. Vacuuming removes dust, dirt, and other debris from the rug's fibres before they set in it also increases the longevity of your rug. If your rug is reversible you can vacuum both sides but its not a necessity.
-
Spot cleaning: Spot clean stains as soon as possible to prevent them from becoming permanent. We suggest a mild detergent and cold water or a product made specifically for stain removal.( NEVER USE HOT OR WARM WATER THIS MAY SET THE STAIN.)
-
Blot spills: Blot spills immediately with a paper towel or a colourless cloth.
- Rotate: Rotate your rug every 2–6 months this will help maintain its shape and help avoid wear marks in traffic areas and keep your rug looking clean.
- We recommend professional cleaning: Dry cleaning is a good option for cleaning rugs because it won't damage the fibres but there are also professional rug laundries in Victoria that pick up and return your rug to your home.
-
Use a rug underlay: Use a rug underlay to stop your Rugs from slipping or moving, it will also help maintain your rugs shape and extend its life, there are different types of underlay so be sure to get the correct type. E.G Rug underlay for carpet floors and rug underlay for hard floors.
- Different Fibres: There are many different fibres used to make rugs now a days so be careful what method you use when trying to remove a spill, My best advice is always blot never scrub or rub as this just spreads the spill out and makes it worse. But above all if in doubt call a professional.
